Happy 1st Birthday, Seb!

Our birthday month is over and so are the celebrations and now is the perfect time to blog before I forget the teeny tiny details of what seems my “hope to be a future business venture”… PARTY PLANNING.
At first, we’re thinking of doing it old school, you know the usual venue in your house, cooked meals, balloons and all… but considering the space, weather (soooo hot), parking spaces (which is a huge concern to MY DAD) and manpower needed we decided against it…

Birthday packages are a life saver! Especially for a new mom like me whose quite overwhelmed these days. Usual birthday packages come with a 3 hours use of an air-conditioned venue, food, host, party decorations, prizes, loot bags and a mascot appearance. So its a hassle free, just show up kind of party which is very appealing to me 🙂 A Jollibee party came to mind first because you know… kids. But the thing is, Seb still don’t know who the bee is. So not yet. Maybe on his 7th birthday.

There are sooo many options for such birthday party packages from different fast foods and restaurants that its a pickle which one to avail. What I did was to narrow my list based on location, parking (my Dad’s concern) and the package inclusions, so its a choice between Max’s and Shakeys.
Cut to the chase why not Max’s? this would have been our bet since our priority is PARTY = FOOD. But their children’s party packages does not fit our needs since there is more adult guests than kids. We looked into their milestone packages where you get the venue for 3 hours and food but that’s just it. No decors, host… you have to provide the party props yourself and get this, if you want to have a cake you’ll pay a corkage fee of Php 500 😦

And so we picked SHAKEY’S TAYTAY BRANCH and I am glad we did…
The party cost us Php 23,000 for 60 people. All in. Use of venue for 2 hours (1,000 per hour extension). Buffet style food includes: Pizza, garlic bread, carbonara, spaghetti, chicken, iced tea, soft drinks and ice cream and their birthday present which is this very huge pizza!

44

They also allowed us to have a cake (no fees) and even sliced it. I ordered the 12 x 16 chocolate chiffon cake from Goldilocks and just created my own cake topper as I am not a fan of fondant cakes which are more for presentations / design than the taste itself. I opted for the “tried and tested” cake hehehe… which cost just Php 800 compared to the fondant one’s with a whooping 1500 to start with (no guarantee pa if they’ll achieve your peg cake).

23

As for the design, there’s an existing tarp in line with the JUSTIC LEAGUE theme but I designed and printed my own and just added some balloons and a little pop art too. And the rest was provided by Shakey’s: game prizes, host, program, loot bags, balloons (for 30 children). I chose the slot of 2:30-4:30pm.

9

For Seb’s birthday suit, My original plan is to buy the batman costume is SM department store but quite hesitated when I’m about to buy as I get this thought of where will he wear it after his birthday. It costs around Php 1,500. So we just bought a Batman-ish ensemble instead and it works 🙂 Me and my husband just bought the usual superhero shirts.

6

It was a good celebration and I am very happy that it pull through, looking back on my mini drama to my post before this I don’t know where that woman came from?!
Sebastian changed my life and so is this 1st children’s party that I organized / availed. I am excited in doing more of these and I hope there will be more opportunities where I can try my hand in planning a party or any event pa (such as Weddings too). But for now employment is not an option, I want to have my own…

HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY SEB! Mommy will always be here to LOVE YOU 🙂
As you are MY MOST FAVORITE PERSON IN THIS LIFETIME.

Just in case you need this:

Love lots,

My Top Mommy Products

Researcher. I am that and more whenever there’s something that I am interested in. Thank you for the wonderful and I hope will be a much faster – Internet Connection that I can read on reviews before buying a product or availing a procedure (This is specifically true when I was pregnant: such as the OGTT and CAS test). But now that Seb’s here and I got a little more time to browse online shops while breastfeeding him I have become quite addicted to ordering online to the point that almost every other day within a week there is something delivered to our house. A gift from me to me 🙂
Anyway, online shopping can be a hit and missed. And I am thankful that its very rare when I come across a bad one and I credit my research for such success. Well, so much my intro let me enumerate “My Top Mommy Products”.

  • Coco Haven Baby Hair and Body Wash (Php 300.00 for 250ml) All natural, made of coconut oil and lasting scent. This smells soooo good. Another product from Coco Haven that I really like is their Bugs Away therapeutic cream (Php 200.00) this is one of my go to anti-mosquito products for Seb because it is not that sticky in the skin and again, the smell is really good. you have to try this one, the smell alone sold me out! I ordered this from @9monthsandbeyond_ph‘s Instagram.

  • Human Nature Rescue Balm (Php 99.00 for 10grams) I visited one of their stores and there really are a lot to choose from. Actually, there are two types of this balm, the other one is the soothing balm which i have yet to try. I chose this rescue balm because its for scrapes and scratches in the skin which helps for the bi from mosquito bites. Its pure tea tree + lavender. Wishing now that I bought the big one. Anyway, will definitely refill.

  • Pigeon Baby Oil with Telon It is not available here in the Philippines. This serves as my baby’s Acete de Mansanilla because I find the real one too strong and hot for an infant’s skin. My sister gave this to me from Indonesia.

  • Drypers Drypantz I tried Huggies, Pampers, Mamy Poko and EQ. All diapers worked for Seb. He did not developed any rash but we’re sticking with Drypers as I find it thicker and absorbent. I ordered a box of this in Lazada during their promos, you just have to check the site regularly as there’s always a great deal. Also their delivery is efficient too.

  • Bite Block Insect Repellant cheap, good scent and non-sticky on skin. Spot on!

  • First Bible Stories Book from WS Pacific Publishing Inc. (Php 300.00) as I mentioned in one of my Instagram posts that I intend to read the bible as Seb’s night story rather than the usual fairy tales and this is a great move in my behalf as I get to revisit the bible too. The book has a very good quality and the drawings and story are very in the eyes and understand.

  • Cetaphil Baby Massage Oil Cute packaging 🙂 but the thing that really makes me want this is the moisturizing effect. Great for massaging and works as Mommy’s lotion too.

  • Simba Safe Nail Cutter Sturdy, not that fragile like others because it is made of steel (I prefer this than plastic) and the edge of the tool is blunted to ensure safety.

  • Pigeon Peristaltic Nipple For me, this is the closest teats you can get that resembles the nipple. It is very soft and we never had a problem with nipple confusion. The price ranges from Php 400 – 550 depending on the size and months of the baby.

  • Looney Tunes Baby Bottles (4 oz) Cheap yet very good quality. These are the bottles I used whenever we are out and I can’t feed the baby directly. As I prefer to have a bottled breastmilk baon. This way he is also trained to bottle feed. We started bottle feeding him as early as 2 months.

  • Looney Tunes Manual Breast Pump (Php 900.00) Can be used for wide neck and regular bottles as it has an adaptor, very easy to assemble and clean. Cheap and very efficient. I prefer to use this rather than the portable Pigeon breast pump I have as I feel that I have a better control of the flow and output.

  • Lactation Cookies I ordered mine from @annabananaskitchen in Instagram, their oatmeal raisin with sunflower seeds cookies and it tasted delicious! I’m only supposed to eat 2 max per day but I ate more than that because it taste like a regular cookie that I tend to treat it as a treat/dessert. Yum!

There goes the list. I will be adding more from time to time but so far these are my tried and tested. Will be adding photos soon but will need to collate them first as they are everywhere! I have gotten inconsistent with my file storage this past few months as there’s too little “me” time for now… not complaining though as the baby is at its cutest now, he is starting to babble and oh so adorable! but close to 10 months and still toothless, I am not complaining though as teeth + breastfeeding is never a good combination. yikes!

Ciao for now,

DIY Activities for your Baby (below 1 year old)

I have always been the creative type but never “frugal”. I can justify the need to spend and have more. (Justify mostly to myself as my husband does not buy it). He is my conscience when we’re in the mall. He’s always like”Do you really need it?” Blah, blah, blah… Hindi siya nagger ha. Mas practical at wise lang talaga siya😁

The creativeness in me tripled when I had Seb and discovered Pinterest. If you are not familiar with this app please stop reading my blog and install one NOW! (You’re welcone Pinterest for this promotion hehehe.)

I discovered this app way back 2014 when a friend recommended it and looking back on my boards it summarizes my life’s desires from pugs, to clothes, hair, shoes, to graphic designs, travel goals, wedding pegs, pregnancy tips and now, baby development, milestones and activities to name a few of my searches. It really is all very, very interesting!

My browsing lead to several attempts of Do-It-Yourself which are all successful ahem ahem. And I will share them with you.

Ref Magnets. Good for their stand practice and keeps them occupied for a long time. They can also see themselves in the ref’s surface so its like looking in a mirror. They also reach for the magnet or look for it whenever it drops.

The Ribbon Bar. I created it differently though as we only used a hanger to hold the ribbons making it more portable in my opinion (excuses… the bar seems hard and expensive to replicate)

Dig Out Toys on Jelly. This is easy and cheap. I will be doing this again soon as the baby enjoyed it. Warning: This is messy.

Discovery Basket. This occupies my boy for a long time and whenever he sees a fresh basket with new items he is very excited. I usually prepares this at night so when he wakes up this is my first trick as I am still sleepy to do active plays. The gist is you have this basket/box where you put items from different parts of the house. Example: Bathroom, Kitchen, Bedroom, Office stuff… Note: his favorite is the baking/kitchen items. He loves the whisk and spatulas.

Newspaper or Aluminum Step. Because of their texture once the baby kicks or placed their feet it produces a sound. Thus, the sense of hearing and touch are stimulated.

Balloon Tied to Foot. Seb did not appreciated it much because he was too young when I introduced this to him. 3 Months. Maybe I will try again soon. I’ll buy one of those charactered balloons they sell in the market.

The Silly Putty. The easiest combination I’ve read so far are flour + oil + water + food color and yogurt + food color. This is yet to be tested. I will post the one most effective and fun for him.

Cut and Paste. Using a double sided tape and cut out art papers, He gets to stick the papers on the cabinet. Its not mucb fun for him though, what we found more fun is the anti mosquito stickers. we stick it in his nose, belly, knees etc. we laughs and does the same to mommy.

The Messy Spaghetti. Cooked pasta with food color. I am hesitant to add food color as he will be eating the pasta for sure. Instead I will add a little beetroot for color but won’t mix too long for it might blend with the taste of the pasta and beetroot tastes like soil😑 so that is a no-no.

Coloring Materials. Colors and Colored Pencils are my go to’s when it comes to entertaining this little kiddo. He “tries” to draw nonsense using colors in an illustration board while I doodle with him. and my favorite is whenever he tries to put the colored pencils on its case. he gets to practice his motor and thinking skills.

Pimp the Walker. Seb’s walker is a hand me down and the toy in front of it is damaged so I just discarded it and created a new one. A very detailed car dashboard. It took quite some time and effort. I used a cardboard and sharpie and voila… ganda diba?

These next items are not DIY anymore… but still very helpful in their development.

  1. Read the Bible. I bought “First Bible Stories” and read it to him whenever we can. From the Creation, Isaac, Abraham, Noah, Jonah of the Old Testament and now we are on Jesus’ time at the New Testament. It is a review to me on the bible stories and It seem that I really am the one enjoying because whenever he tries to grab the book I say “No, this is Mommy’s book”. The book is too pretty.
  2. Read Fairy Tales. Aladdin, Puss in Boots, King Midas to name a few… but I prefer for him to read the Bible stories.
  3. Read pretty much everything. From labels, to signages and any other reading sources. I am a reader myself and I hope for him to develop a liking for it too. As I believe that reading is a solid foundation to having a good grammar. I credit my sister for my interest in reading. I remember the first book that my parents bought for me was Sweet Valley Kids.
  4. Massage. From newborn to infancy up to before he becomes too active and squirmish. Massage is a favorite activity. I have a thing for trying out new oils and watching youtube videos of baby massages. Complete with a lullaby on spotify. It was a bonding moment then but now that he cannot keep still… 😭

If you love who you are doing it for then it will never feel like a chore. This is my resourcefulness at its best. Thanks to Pinterest for the inspiration.❤

I hope that this post reaches out to Mothers like me who’s looking for activities that can keep their babies occupied giving them TIME – either to bond or to do something.

Tapping the creative in you,

Seb Update: The Moving Months

There’s this thing that Mothers always tell me before…

The Days are Long, But the Years are Short. So enjoy your baby while they’re a “baby”.

Ever since I had Seb, my life has become erratic. A feeling that I am always in a hurry, my eye on what is ahead, imagine a blur and craziness… but as Seb reaches his 6th month (I hope that I am not speaking too soon) I feel that I am now more calm, slow, mellow and at peace. A little dramatic it may sound.  But that is my current state, not only as a Mom but as Me.

Why? … A little back story.

On my 37th week of pregnancy, My husband arrived from his work and decided to stay until we have the baby and a few more months to experience parenthood. He’d been with me since day one to the point that I’ve become reliant on him. Too reliant If I am being honest. That’s why the thought of him going away again for work got me really worried on how I will handle the baby alone as a parent. So the feeling of “urgency” has never subsided when he left, It actually escalated.

But I guess reality hit me and made me realize that most women, mothers go through this every single day alone. Without help pa nga. Just herself on her own. So why can’t I? From there, I found myself settling on a routine. And one of the best advice that I can give which I am too hard headed to try before is — To sleep when the baby sleeps. (Before, I use my spare time to check in on my social media accounts. But now I realize that by doing so, I am depriving myself a good and rejuvinating moment, which is more rewarding than spending time online).

Enough of my “side-drama” here’s the update on Seb’s 7th Month this May 7, 2017!

  • He can crawl, long strides if he really wants the toy ahead
  • He eats cereals and vegetables and fruits (mashed) and drinks water from a sippy cup. i bypassed the water on a bottle as I don’t see the need for it
  • He is very expressive and loud! you can tell if he wants or hates something
  • Thank God for diaper pants as it saves me the inconvenience of putting taped diapers on him while he toss and turns repeatedly
  • He sleeps straight from 8pm-6am with very few waking moments to nurse.
  • His gums are showing signs of teething. There’s a white trail where you’ll see the tooth about to come out.
  • His poop smells (not cute) 😦

IMG_6558

Since it took me more than a month to compose this post, Seb has reached his 8 months already😂 so here’s his 8th month milestones too.

  • He can sit and can stay that way almost steadily
  • He can stand in his crib. He achieves this position by pulling himself up from sitting
  • The boy can cruise in his crib
  • He still loves to put everything in his mouth and his grasping of objects has improved too
  • He keeps saying the word “abu” and sometimes I think I can hear him say Mommy but that’s yet to be proven and be heard by others for confirmation
  • Mommy is thankful for his unchanging sleep schedule of 8pm-6am
  • No teeth yet but a lot of razzing sounds and drooling
  • Now weighs 9.97 kg and lengths 74cm👍🏼

Time really flies fast. Whoever said this quote totally nailed it! A lot happened during a day. Inbetween his nursing, feeding, morning and noon strolls. To his playtime, daily massages, poop and pee. It may seem routine now but this are all treasured moments…

My favorite part of everyday is when he’s down for the night. I would watch him sleep and cannot resist kissing him causing him too steer a little and make my heart skip a beat that he may wake up hahaha. But really, he is the cutest baby ever especially when asleep.

But not everyday is perfect. His 7-8 month transition had been worrisome to us. the culprit? CONSTIPATION. I would never have thought during my single years that I’ll be waiting and be ecstatic over someone pooping and will never be gross to touch it. (more of this on my next post)

I just regret that I am not able to have a monthly update on his progress. That would have been a very good cheat sheet for the next one. Anyway, this are all for now. See you on my next post.

Back to Mommy duty,

Seb Update: My Newborn is now an Infant.

Baby Sebastian is now 5 months and has grown really active to the point of me getting headaches during diaper change moments. Seriously! Ooh, the joys and pain of raising an infant…

Goodbye newborn! Say hello to this easy to please, kinda gullible, pro roller, laughing machine and mommy finding infant. In a few weeks he’ll have Messy eater under his belt too as he will start to eat solids. More of purees I guess.

If this is a game app we’re playing then I have definitely leveled up! Woo Hoo! A little update on how the baby is doing:

  • Hair fall happened and so is the Mohawk look.
  • Have discovered his toes and tries to pick and put them in his mouth. Weird😑.
  • He puts everything in his mouth! Touch and taste it is!
  • He screams when he is happy, sad and calling for attention. In different tones.
  • Have become so attached to me. (Maybe because we’re EBF so the closeness) He always looks for me and cry when we’re apart. Awww, really sweet and makes me feel really important and loved but this feeling change once he screams for me when I’m in the bathroom😒.
  • Is now a very ticklish baby, his laugh is contagious! Real music to Mommy’s ears. Goodbye Spotify!
  • Bears weight on legs when positioned for standing.
  • Seems to want to be part of everything. FOMO!
  • My favorite: Developed a sleeping pattern. From 9pm – 6am. He only wakes up every 4 hours to feed which is easy since we do a sidelying position. I have been getting enough sleep now. Yey!
  • Loves the water. He never cries when we bathe him.
  • An ideal baby traveler. He either sleeps or just watches the view whenever we’re on a car. When he starts to fuzz we just give him my breast milk.
  • Shows signs of teething. He attempts to bite during feedings. The horror😱.
  • Tummy time is a whirlwind. He flips and roll and everything in between. We can never leave him unattended now. Ever!
  • Mommy’s love to Seb has outgrown her love for herself 👩🏻❤👶🏻

He really is a blessing. Not every moment is all smiles but cliche as it was – With just a single smile, All the hardships and pain fades. – that is the truth.

Closing in our 6th month, we’re now preparing for his solid intake. And so the quest for a high chair, food props and puree recipes has began.

I am overjoyed that Seb is growing fast but also sad that he is. All Mothers know what I mean. The best advice ever? ENJOY EVERY MOMENT.

Love,

I am posting my Love & Carry Air review because I want to share the experience and to suggest an alternative especially for budget conscious mommies who want a quality yet affordable tool for baby wearing. This cost Php 4,000 + shipping fee.

How’s my baby wearing experience? Great! I find it more personal and interactive than strollers especially when we’re out. As I love talking and describing whatever we pass on to my son. I am sure that he could hear me, compare to when we’re using  stroller. Also I get to kiss him often and see his reaction every time and he likes to taste it — it soothes him — thank you drool pads!

My Action Shot

I have also joined a forum in facebook re baby wearing and am learning a lot. Baby wearing helps a lot of mothers to be closer to their child and most of all to be flexible and be able to do more.

Happy Baby wearing Mommies… I hope that somehow, I am able to help you with your SSC decision making.

Babywearing: Which SSC is better?

Babywearing is something that I have yet to experience. I’ve seen many parents doing this almost everywhere and I say it looks pretty easy and very convenient instead of a stroller – No more elevators, bulky carriage and you can go anywhere as if you are simply carrying a bag… talk about portability. The concept is simple: You-carry-your-baby.👍🏼

I am a research person and that’s why I love reading blogs – especially Mom blogs nowadays ever since I’ve been one. Their recommendations are what sells a product to me because their reviews are as real as one can get. And so the search for the perfect carrier begins…

Baby Carriers are very indemand now and so comes the vast selection. From types, to brands, to colors, sizes and features and It can get pretty overwhelming. With this, you have to identify your needs to be able to narrow down your choices. And here is what I am looking for:

  • Can be use from Newborn to Toddler without the need for infant insert.
  • Can do front facing position.
  • Comfortable for Mommy’s use.
  • For the price: I understand that SSCs are pricey (almost the same price of a stroller) but as long as its brand is established and trusted, the quality is very good then I’ll just turn a blind eye😂
  • Hope Daddy can use too.

Okay so that was quite a list but I have narrowed my choices to three and will discuss them in a while. But first let me talk about what I’ve learned about babywearing so far..

Babywearing is not a new trend as it can be traced way back to our ancestors (tribe people – they use clothe as wraps then). From there it has evolved and is now known in its many faces: Mei Tai, Ring Sling, Woven Wrap, Stretch Wrap and the most popular and modern SSC (Soft Structured Carriers), which is my choice.

I have tried the SaYa (Pricing at Php 950.00) which is a stretch wrap and I was confused and kind of disappointed. It is hard to set up that I never get to use it. I ordered it when Seb is only 3 weeks, tried it with my husband’s help. Even with the manual and watching YouTube videos – we still fail. I find it too snug and fit that I am scared to put my baby in it in fear that he’ll get squish. I have the right size naman but I don’t know I am just not confident to use it.

And so I look for other wraps and find the Baby K’Tan breeze which look very promising. It is half mesh, half cloth so the airflow is present which is really important especially in Philippine weather. It does not seem that complicated to use and has more support. For the price of around Php 3,000 it was a candidate. Was I say because I thought that wraps would not be for my long term use as it has a tendency to sag if Seb becomes heavier which is inevitable. So from wraps I’ve jumped to an SSC.

SSC is sturdier and will grow with my baby. And from my research my top choices are:

ERGOBABY 360 – (still needs an infant insert) can be used from 7-33 lbs, has a front facing feature, ErgoBaby is the top brand when it comes to baby carriers so the quality is expected to be superb. Has very good designs but we’re interested to get the block gray if ever.

ergobaby-360

TULA – still needs an infant insert and no front facing position but from reviews mothers say that these are the most comfortable to use as it fits the wearer very well. Also the designs are very stylish, I am so inlove with the block gray and star design.

img_6452_b78a28f3-b769-4ea7-a9c2-c8afa4c4be4d_1024x1024

LILLEBABY All Seasons – no need for infant insert, has 6 positions including front facing and can be use from newborn to toddlers years so that’s 7-45 lbs. Has a lumbar support too which is brilliant.

lillebaby-complete-all-seasons-6-in-1-baby-carrier-2

lillebaby_essentials-allseasons-stone-01_1024x1024

These SSCs cost pretty much the same, pricing at around Php 5,000 ++ costly I know but I’d rather spend than risk my baby falling (nooooooo!) All are available in the country. The Ergobaby and Lillebaby can be purchase in The Baby Company at selected SM stores but TULA has an exclusive distributor which is the CEO Emporium whose store is located in San Juan.

I am pretty much solved to LILLEBABY because its very “sulit”. Still need to try them personally prior to buying which will happen in the next few weeks. Seb is exactly  2 months now and I plan to start wearing him at around 3 months to make sure that his head and neck are stronger.

I joined the Babywearing Philippines page in Facebook and it really is a big help in giving information about everything I need to know in babywearing, check out and join the group moms. Its really helpful.

Will update you guys once my babywearing journey started.

Excited to buy her very first carrier,

Breastmilk is Best for my Baby

Excerpt from my Postpartum Thoughts of a New Mom blog post:

Breastfeeding has its ups and downs, but mostly ups. The first week hurts the most because your nipple will bleed, get sore and blistered not because baby’s latch is wrong but due to the opening of the milk ducts (that’s my personal theory). Your toes will curl from the pain😱. Another down would be sleepless nights as you will be feeding by demand, so when the baby cries then so will you. Usually, they woke up every 2 hours but some nights as close as 20 minutes interval.

For the benefits: Of course breast milk is best for babies, I cannot stress that enough. The benefits that both mommy and baby will reap are huge. For Mommy, it lessens postpartum bleeding, diminishes one’s chances of having ovarian and breast cancer, helps us to return to our pre-pregnancy weight, there’s also the factor of cost efficiency and portability. As for the baby, the colostrum alone can do wonders to a newborn. Strengthening the immune system, lower risk of obesity and diabetes, helps in brain development and avoids the case of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) to name a few.

I’m still getting the hang of it. But I can attest that breastfeeding and lack of sleep really are the big culprits in returning to my pre-pregnancy weight. I am still waiting for my 6th week prior to exercising to eliminate my tummy flabs😑.

My breastfeeding journey is normal.

I say normal because I think more women tend to go this way at the start. See, Mother’s milk are produce after they give birth with the exception of the lucky few who at around 35 weeks of pregnancy is already producing a few drops. But at most very little or close to none were seen at around this time. If ever there is, That’s the very first drop which is the colostrum – the healthiest of all.

My breast milk has become evident to me at around close to 2 weeks after labor. When I say evident, it means that when I squeeze my breast there’s a milk leak. As for the colostrum, to be honest I didn’t see nor feel it the first time my newborn latches to me.

Seb went straight to NICU after birth as he ingested meconium while inside me so he was given an antibiotic via dextrose which is really sad. Until now, it pains me to imagine my baby being injected in what had been his teeny tiny hand. Anyway, we were not room in. I had to go down to NICU every 2 hours to breastfeed.

After discharge, during our first night (which felt like a year) my husband and I became worried as even if he latches to me he seems to be hungry still and so his cries were very loud and panicky on our part as parents. We decided to give him formula given from a dropper for him not to develop nipple confusion. So on the first week, My baby had mixed feeding. He latches to me first then if he is unsatisfied comes the formula at 2oz maximum per feeding.

On my 35th week, my doctor prescribed me with Natalac (malunggay supplement) twice a day in preparation for my breastfeeding. But still, as per elder’s advise I also feed on all food with malunggay and soup. I also had my breasts massaged and put hot towel in it at 30 seconds interval. I find these steps as my breast milk booster during those starting times.

As early as 12th day postpartum I am able to pump 4oz of breast milk using my Pigeon electric portable breast pump. It took quite a while but I am very happy with that first 4oz!

farlin

Farlin manual breast pump can accommodate both wide and slim neck bottle (I use my Pigeon bottle in this photo).

At 7 weeks, I bought a Farlin manual breast pump as I read in other blogs that it is good and upon trying it, I’ll rate it good as well.

I’ll say my milk supply has become stable now. It’s true that it is a supply and demand process. I strongly advise to keep your baby latching and soon those golden liquid will come plenty. Just be patient Mommies. All will come in time. Remember, that Breast milk is best for babies.

bm

A glimpse of my breast milk collection. Baby Seb consumes 4oz per feeding, he only use this when I am asleep which is from 6AM-12NN wherein he is being bottle fed with my BM. I prefer to use storage bottles because its more economic and environment-friendly.

I am happy to be part of the norm, where Mothers chooses the most natural way to feed their baby and I am glad to be part of groups that support each other in the breastfeeding journey. To breastfeeding pinays and expressers / pumping Moms PH, Thank you very much!😊

bf

This is one cute little baby! Mommy is so inlove 🙂

The effect of breastfeeding can very well be seen in my baby. He had doubled his weight and more at his 6th week check-up and counting. He’s rarely fuzzy too. I am thankful that he is an easy baby no nipple confusion and all, I attribute this to Pigeon’s peristaltic nipples.

Breastfeeding? So far, so good… Next stop! Babywearing.

A proud breastfeeding Mommy,

Postpartum Thoughts of a New Mom

I am currently at my 20th day postpartum as of writing and want to share my thoughts and experiences during this time to have something to look back or review If ever I’ll be pregnant again (but not for the next three years please😐).

1. I believe I had an easy labor. From contractions to recovery I think I pretty much had it easy and simple except for the actual pushing which I never want to put myself in again (I find this to be some sort of torture! Laying strap in the table and all). Let me tell you guys that the birthing position in which they hold laboring mothers is not the best, most productive one. It even seems to put the whole process of pushing against gravity. Thank God this lasts for an hour and forty five minutes only.

2. I just discovered the wonders of sedatives. Being given a sedative and able to sleep for four hours help me to have enough energy for the actual pushing. The insertion of the medicine thru my vein may be painful but it was worth it.

3. The thing they called Lochia is real. You really need to wear adult diapers for days! Good thing that I bought my own set of adult diapers as I find it cost efficient rather than have the hospital supply me one because let’s be honest – hospital items are expensive. Also, buy a dozen of disposable panties as its true that your underwear will get ruined! By day 5 postpartum, I am already wearing maternity pads as I find the diapers hard to remove when peeing also I cannot seem to pee in the diapers as I am fully aware that I am peeing in a diaper, if you know what I mean. Anyway, maternity pads + disposable underwear = quite comfortable duo for my lochia problem.

*** Update on my lochia status by day 23 postpartum, Close to none anymore so yey!

For Mommy, it lessens post partum bleeding, diminishes one’s chances of having ovarian and breast cancer, helps us to return to our pre-pregnancy weight, there’s also the factor of cost efficiency and portability.

5. Newborns at 3 weeks are noisy sleepers. Whoever coined the phrase “sleeping like a baby” similar to a peaceful sleep has never sleep next to a newborn because let me tell you this little sleeperson is loud! You thought their awake based from those sounds and ready to feed but when you’re about to pick them up their eyes are shut… because they are dreaming, in an REM state or something.

6. Newborns nails are like that of Wolverine’s😱. They are really long and sharp and brutal to the skin especially to Mommy’s breast if ever the protective mittens are off which happens very often because the damn thing would never stick on! May it be the tie up or garter ones.

7. Those clothes sized as newborns (0-3 months)… They lie for they never fit well. My baby is quite average in size for newborns at 7.4 lbs but his tie sides, pajamas and the most frustrating stupid bonnet are all too big for him. But I would like to special mention the brand “hush hush” which newborn’s sizes fits my baby as if its especially made for him. These are found in the baby company in SM stores. Their bonnets are great.

8. Say goodbye to your long straight sleep. When I was pregnant I am wide awake from 8pm-6am and asleep the rest of the day so imagine how much sleep I get then and how ideal my sleeping pattern is now that I have a baby. But now that those sleeping patterns and time is needed that’s when my body would not cooperate, I am super sleepy at the wee hours of the morning when the baby needs me to feed and can never sleep when the day comes as I am wide awake!

9. Too many advices can make you go crazy! Elder’s old sayings really are too much. I follow some but at most it irritates me. I have gone 12 days without taking a shower because they kept on saying that I should not yet. After close to two weeks I finally had one but with a rinsing water made up of boiled guava leaves and while standing in a pile of assorted leaves (tanglad, sampaloc, suha to name a few).

What I really oppose to is whenever there are visitors and they are about to leave is that they need to swipe saliva on my baby to avoid bad elements… eeewww! no, no, no please!

There are more ill advises but I wouldn’t enumerate anymore since I myself would never bother doing them as some sayings are really too much. Anyway, you are the Mom and you will know and will do anything that you think is best for your baby no matter what others are saying.

10. You really need a support system. And I am very thankful that I have a wonderful husband as he really takes care of me and our baby. From the hospital when peeing, cleaning up post labor you need someone to watch over you and help you with things and when you get home, for when you need to take a break to shower, eat, sleep and recharge he can look after the baby. You just need to do shifting so both can have enough rest.

Confession: As early as 15 days postpartum I think I had a meltdown as I have been really overwhelmed with my body changes after labor, being tired, the downs of breastfeeding and sleepless nights that I cried and told my husband that I am tired and close to having a depression but he talked me out of it and we came up with minor changes in our responsibilities so as to ease my half and for that I am very thankful to him.

11. Now I understand why new parents flood facebook with baby photos. EVERYDAY because new parents can’t help it. You can’t get enough photos of your newborn and you want to share how cute they are. My camera roll these days only has one subject: my baby.

12. My epiphany. As I was breastfeeding my baby, I just look at him and thought of the times when I first learned of his existence, what I did during my first trimester, how he feels when I am still pregnant and now, there he is in my arms as a human being. Sucking, blinking, moving and breathing and all. Amazing! He came from inside me. Wow simply wow!

13. You’ll have several nickname for your little one. Same with the photos you simply can’t get enough.

These are my thoughts so far. I am still on my 20th day postpartum and many things will still happen and unravel. I still have a lot to learn as a mother but I am taking my time with my baby one step at a time. So to my fellow moms whose reading this… let’s do this together. Share your thoughts with me😊.

Will forever be grateful for my little Seb,

EQ Diapers free sample

Don’t you just love surprises?

It has been weeks since I signed up for their free diaper sample ad in Facebook so receiving a package via delivery from JRS really was a surprise. And upon opening it… “Oooh nice!” was my reaction and it came with a big smile and satisfaction.

They sent me diapers both in newborn and small sizes (which I think is well thought of since my baby may have grown much for the newborn size) also they put in the baby wipes for its usefulness in the diaper changing process.

I simply LOVE it.

So for First Time Moms like me, I encourage you to visit EQ Diapers Facebook page and sign up for this freebie as it can really make your day and for a good few minutes veer your mind off your incoming labor pains.
