It’s the middle of the night and my toddler of 21 months woke me up crying and pointing at his mouth and cupping his cheeks as if to say that he cannot sleep because it hurts.
But what can I do? I cannot take away his pain even If I wished it to be mine instead. So I just did what every mother would do at the moment. I hugged and breastfeed him until he fell asleep…
What a sad scenario.
And what is the cause of this sad moment? A TEETHING BABY.
Motherhood is a commitment. There are no backsies, once you are in, you are in for Life. To have someone depend on you for everything is a challenge. I mean that is a person! Whatever he will be in the future is on you. IT’S ALL YOU. And sometimes, such term can become too literal especially if you are a Stay At Home Mom.
It’s all you to prepare the food, to clean the house, manage the bills, take care of your kid and everything else in between. To take care of everything to the point of forgetting yourself. How selfless and servitude, right?
Its given that toddlers do not have the ability yet to stay put for a long time. They want to move, run, jump and stay active always. That’s why phrases such as “stop that”, “keep still”, “wait” and the likes do not work – most of the time.
And as a mom who wants to introduce my child to the basics of learning, I work around this active trait and do my best to engage him thru play while learning.
