Happy 1st Birthday, Seb!

Our birthday month is over and so are the celebrations and now is the perfect time to blog before I forget the teeny tiny details of what seems my “hope to be a future business venture”… PARTY PLANNING.
At first, we’re thinking of doing it old school, you know the usual venue in your house, cooked meals, balloons and all… but considering the space, weather (soooo hot), parking spaces (which is a huge concern to MY DAD) and manpower needed we decided against it…

Birthday packages are a life saver! Especially for a new mom like me whose quite overwhelmed these days. Usual birthday packages come with a 3 hours use of an air-conditioned venue, food, host, party decorations, prizes, loot bags and a mascot appearance. So its a hassle free, just show up kind of party which is very appealing to me 🙂 A Jollibee party came to mind first because you know… kids. But the thing is, Seb still don’t know who the bee is. So not yet. Maybe on his 7th birthday.

There are sooo many options for such birthday party packages from different fast foods and restaurants that its a pickle which one to avail. What I did was to narrow my list based on location, parking (my Dad’s concern) and the package inclusions, so its a choice between Max’s and Shakeys.
Cut to the chase why not Max’s? this would have been our bet since our priority is PARTY = FOOD. But their children’s party packages does not fit our needs since there is more adult guests than kids. We looked into their milestone packages where you get the venue for 3 hours and food but that’s just it. No decors, host… you have to provide the party props yourself and get this, if you want to have a cake you’ll pay a corkage fee of Php 500 😦

And so we picked SHAKEY’S TAYTAY BRANCH and I am glad we did…
The party cost us Php 23,000 for 60 people. All in. Use of venue for 2 hours (1,000 per hour extension). Buffet style food includes: Pizza, garlic bread, carbonara, spaghetti, chicken, iced tea, soft drinks and ice cream and their birthday present which is this very huge pizza!

44

They also allowed us to have a cake (no fees) and even sliced it. I ordered the 12 x 16 chocolate chiffon cake from Goldilocks and just created my own cake topper as I am not a fan of fondant cakes which are more for presentations / design than the taste itself. I opted for the “tried and tested” cake hehehe… which cost just Php 800 compared to the fondant one’s with a whooping 1500 to start with (no guarantee pa if they’ll achieve your peg cake).

23

As for the design, there’s an existing tarp in line with the JUSTIC LEAGUE theme but I designed and printed my own and just added some balloons and a little pop art too. And the rest was provided by Shakey’s: game prizes, host, program, loot bags, balloons (for 30 children). I chose the slot of 2:30-4:30pm.

For Seb’s birthday suit, My original plan is to buy the batman costume is SM department store but quite hesitated when I’m about to buy as I get this thought of where will he wear it after his birthday. It costs around Php 1,500. So we just bought a Batman-ish ensemble instead and it works 🙂 Me and my husband just bought the usual superhero shirts.

6

It was a good celebration and I am very happy that it pull through, looking back on my mini drama to my post before this I don’t know where that woman came from?!
Sebastian changed my life and so is this 1st children’s party that I organized / availed. I am excited in doing more of these and I hope there will be more opportunities where I can try my hand in planning a party or any event pa (such as Weddings too). But for now employment is not an option, I want to have my own…

HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY SEB! Mommy will always be here to LOVE YOU 🙂
As you are MY MOST FAVORITE PERSON IN THIS LIFETIME.

Just in case you need this:

Love lots,

Confessions of a Drama Mom

Who would have thought that planning Seb’s 1st Birthday will be a pickle.

Upon discussing my woes to my husband he told me this: “Event planner ka pero nahihirapan kang planuhin ang birthday ng anak mo?” Well, this hits me hard.

Torn between being grand, practical, traditional and everything in between. There are several factors to play with…

  • He will not remember his 1st birthday
  • It is not for the baby but more for the parents, people around him is why there is a party
  • This will only come once in his life
  • 1st and 7th birthday are the must celebrated ages

Present day: I don’t know whose talking here, why am I being a drama queen typing that eh? Of course its my son’s 1st birthday and there’s NO way it will not be celebrated. And so wear that party hat because it is ON 😊😊😊 woot woot!

DIY Activities for your Baby (below 1 year old)

I have always been the creative type but never “frugal”. I can justify the need to spend and have more. (Justify mostly to myself as my husband does not buy it). He is my conscience when we’re in the mall. He’s always like”Do you really need it?” Blah, blah, blah… Hindi siya nagger ha. Mas practical at wise lang talaga siya😁

The creativeness in me tripled when I had Seb and discovered Pinterest. If you are not familiar with this app please stop reading my blog and install one NOW! (You’re welcone Pinterest for this promotion hehehe.)

I discovered this app way back 2014 when a friend recommended it and looking back on my boards it summarizes my life’s desires from pugs, to clothes, hair, shoes, to graphic designs, travel goals, wedding pegs, pregnancy tips and now, baby development, milestones and activities to name a few of my searches. It really is all very, very interesting!

My browsing lead to several attempts of Do-It-Yourself which are all successful ahem ahem. And I will share them with you.

Ref Magnets. Good for their stand practice and keeps them occupied for a long time. They can also see themselves in the ref’s surface so its like looking in a mirror. They also reach for the magnet or look for it whenever it drops.

The Ribbon Bar. I created it differently though as we only used a hanger to hold the ribbons making it more portable in my opinion (excuses… the bar seems hard and expensive to replicate)

Dig Out Toys on Jelly. This is easy and cheap. I will be doing this again soon as the baby enjoyed it. Warning: This is messy.

Discovery Basket. This occupies my boy for a long time and whenever he sees a fresh basket with new items he is very excited. I usually prepares this at night so when he wakes up this is my first trick as I am still sleepy to do active plays. The gist is you have this basket/box where you put items from different parts of the house. Example: Bathroom, Kitchen, Bedroom, Office stuff… Note: his favorite is the baking/kitchen items. He loves the whisk and spatulas.

Newspaper or Aluminum Step. Because of their texture once the baby kicks or placed their feet it produces a sound. Thus, the sense of hearing and touch are stimulated.

Balloon Tied to Foot. Seb did not appreciated it much because he was too young when I introduced this to him. 3 Months. Maybe I will try again soon. I’ll buy one of those charactered balloons they sell in the market.

The Silly Putty. The easiest combination I’ve read so far are flour + oil + water + food color and yogurt + food color. This is yet to be tested. I will post the one most effective and fun for him.

Cut and Paste. Using a double sided tape and cut out art papers, He gets to stick the papers on the cabinet. Its not mucb fun for him though, what we found more fun is the anti mosquito stickers. we stick it in his nose, belly, knees etc. we laughs and does the same to mommy.

The Messy Spaghetti. Cooked pasta with food color. I am hesitant to add food color as he will be eating the pasta for sure. Instead I will add a little beetroot for color but won’t mix too long for it might blend with the taste of the pasta and beetroot tastes like soil😑 so that is a no-no.

Coloring Materials. Colors and Colored Pencils are my go to’s when it comes to entertaining this little kiddo. He “tries” to draw nonsense using colors in an illustration board while I doodle with him. and my favorite is whenever he tries to put the colored pencils on its case. he gets to practice his motor and thinking skills.

Pimp the Walker. Seb’s walker is a hand me down and the toy in front of it is damaged so I just discarded it and created a new one. A very detailed car dashboard. It took quite some time and effort. I used a cardboard and sharpie and voila… ganda diba?

These next items are not DIY anymore… but still very helpful in their development.

  1. Read the Bible. I bought “First Bible Stories” and read it to him whenever we can. From the Creation, Isaac, Abraham, Noah, Jonah of the Old Testament and now we are on Jesus’ time at the New Testament. It is a review to me on the bible stories and It seem that I really am the one enjoying because whenever he tries to grab the book I say “No, this is Mommy’s book”. The book is too pretty.
  2. Read Fairy Tales. Aladdin, Puss in Boots, King Midas to name a few… but I prefer for him to read the Bible stories.
  3. Read pretty much everything. From labels, to signages and any other reading sources. I am a reader myself and I hope for him to develop a liking for it too. As I believe that reading is a solid foundation to having a good grammar. I credit my sister for my interest in reading. I remember the first book that my parents bought for me was Sweet Valley Kids.
  4. Massage. From newborn to infancy up to before he becomes too active and squirmish. Massage is a favorite activity. I have a thing for trying out new oils and watching youtube videos of baby massages. Complete with a lullaby on spotify. It was a bonding moment then but now that he cannot keep still… 😭

If you love who you are doing it for then it will never feel like a chore. This is my resourcefulness at its best. Thanks to Pinterest for the inspiration.❤

I hope that this post reaches out to Mothers like me who’s looking for activities that can keep their babies occupied giving them TIME – either to bond or to do something.

Constipated Baby: The Struggle is Real.

This has been a problem for almost 2 weeks now and It is driving me nuts! Who would have thought that POOP would become a big deal and take most of my time worrying.
Warning: If you are a Mom you’ll get me and sympathize but if not then you are reading the wrong post.

Here’s the story…

Seb did not poop for 10 days straight, as in nada a-a.

His diet stays the same: Breastmilk and porridge with vegetables and fruits (mashed).

So come day 6th we decided to go to the doctor and see what we could do. She prescribed Lilac, a Lactulose for 3x a day 2.5ml each time. But Seb hates it and just spit the super sticky, thick liquid (even I hate this stuff). So we opted for natural ways instead. There’s the tummy clockwise and I love you massage and bicycle massage. We also gave him prune juice. But still nothing. Until the 10th day where I gave in and just opted for the last resort which I really think is a savior, the suppository. Within just 10 minutes of pushing it in. Pooped out. I thought that was the end of it.

Come 3 days straight and nothing. So I fed him avocado and he did poop. I thought that was the end of it.

3 days interval and he did poop. I again pushed a suppository but this time there was a trace of blood in the poop and so I decided to again visit a new doctor. But the thing is, she prescribed the same thing which is the Lilac.

And so I visited another pedia. And she gave the baby a liquid laxative which is the Dulcolax SP 4ml 2x a day and she asked for an x-ray ( poor baby having to stay still, good thing he is not a cry baby). The result of the x-ray is that there are many poo inside. Backed up there and cannot descend as if there is a stopper in his butt😐 and so she increased the dosage to 5ml.

I do not want Seb to rely on suppository or medicines to poop so I went back to the basics and feed him papaya, an over riped papaya to be exact and gave him all sorts of tummy massage I found on Youtube.

Boy oh boy, when the baby strains and cry and scream bloody murder because of what I assume is the difficulty to pass such piece it really pains me, if only I could take away the pain. And so I tried to actually help him using my hand and oh lala after that piece which I assume is the stopper, all things are back to normal. No more are the 3-2 days interval, he now goes everyday and with a very good consistency. Thank you very much.

This may have been too personal and TMI but I want to record this for future reference. It is a good thing that Seb had never loss appetite, become irritable during this almost close to a month struggle. Resulting to 3 different Pediatrician consultations and x-ray.

I thought of all the possible factors that may cause his constipation but I can only think of one. MY diet. Prior to his constipation I become addicted to a frap (coffee+chocolate flavor) to the point the I consume it daily and since he is EBF maybe the transfer? I do not know exactly if this is it. But after watching my diet closely and returning to healthy eating, he did had a healthy bowel movement too. Lesson learned. The hard way.

So there goes my story. I really am a Mom now eh? Look at my post… all Seb and Mommy and Breastfeeding ooh! Embracing the #momlife

Happy for a piece,

Seb Update: The Moving Months

There’s this thing that Mothers always tell me before…

The Days are Long, But the Years are Short. So enjoy your baby while they’re a “baby”.

Ever since I had Seb, my life has become erratic. A feeling that I am always in a hurry, my eye on what is ahead, imagine a blur and craziness… but as Seb reaches his 6th month (I hope that I am not speaking too soon) I feel that I am now more calm, slow, mellow and at peace. A little dramatic it may sound.  But that is my current state, not only as a Mom but as Me.

Why? … A little back story.

On my 37th week of pregnancy, My husband arrived from his work and decided to stay until we have the baby and a few more months to experience parenthood. He’d been with me since day one to the point that I’ve become reliant on him. Too reliant If I am being honest. That’s why the thought of him going away again for work got me really worried on how I will handle the baby alone as a parent. So the feeling of “urgency” has never subsided when he left, It actually escalated.

But I guess reality hit me and made me realize that most women, mothers go through this every single day alone. Without help pa nga. Just herself on her own. So why can’t I? From there, I found myself settling on a routine. And one of the best advice that I can give which I am too hard headed to try before is — To sleep when the baby sleeps. (Before, I use my spare time to check in on my social media accounts. But now I realize that by doing so, I am depriving myself a good and rejuvinating moment, which is more rewarding than spending time online).

Enough of my “side-drama” here’s the update on Seb’s 7th Month this May 7, 2017!

  • He can crawl, long strides if he really wants the toy ahead
  • He eats cereals and vegetables and fruits (mashed) and drinks water from a sippy cup. i bypassed the water on a bottle as I don’t see the need for it
  • He is very expressive and loud! you can tell if he wants or hates something
  • Thank God for diaper pants as it saves me the inconvenience of putting taped diapers on him while he toss and turns repeatedly
  • He sleeps straight from 8pm-6am with very few waking moments to nurse.
  • His gums are showing signs of teething. There’s a white trail where you’ll see the tooth about to come out.
  • His poop smells (not cute) 😦

IMG_6558

Since it took me more than a month to compose this post, Seb has reached his 8 months already😂 so here’s his 8th month milestones too.

  • He can sit and can stay that way almost steadily
  • He can stand in his crib. He achieves this position by pulling himself up from sitting
  • The boy can cruise in his crib
  • He still loves to put everything in his mouth and his grasping of objects has improved too
  • He keeps saying the word “abu” and sometimes I think I can hear him say Mommy but that’s yet to be proven and be heard by others for confirmation
  • Mommy is thankful for his unchanging sleep schedule of 8pm-6am
  • No teeth yet but a lot of razzing sounds and drooling
  • Now weighs 9.97 kg and lengths 74cm👍🏼

Time really flies fast. Whoever said this quote totally nailed it! A lot happened during a day. Inbetween his nursing, feeding, morning and noon strolls. To his playtime, daily massages, poop and pee. It may seem routine now but this are all treasured moments…

My favorite part of everyday is when he’s down for the night. I would watch him sleep and cannot resist kissing him causing him too steer a little and make my heart skip a beat that he may wake up hahaha. But really, he is the cutest baby ever especially when asleep.

But not everyday is perfect. His 7-8 month transition had been worrisome to us. the culprit? CONSTIPATION. I would never have thought during my single years that I’ll be waiting and be ecstatic over someone pooping and will never be gross to touch it. (more of this on my next post)

I just regret that I am not able to have a monthly update on his progress. That would have been a very good cheat sheet for the next one. Anyway, this are all for now. See you on my next post.

Back to Mommy duty,

Seb Update: My Newborn is now an Infant.

Baby Sebastian is now 5 months and has grown really active to the point of me getting headaches during diaper change moments. Seriously! Ooh, the joys and pain of raising an infant…

Goodbye newborn! Say hello to this easy to please, kinda gullible, pro roller, laughing machine and mommy finding infant. In a few weeks he’ll have Messy eater under his belt too as he will start to eat solids. More of purees I guess.

If this is a game app we’re playing then I have definitely leveled up! Woo Hoo! A little update on how the baby is doing:

  • Hair fall happened and so is the Mohawk look.
  • Have discovered his toes and tries to pick and put them in his mouth. Weird😑.
  • He puts everything in his mouth! Touch and taste it is!
  • He screams when he is happy, sad and calling for attention. In different tones.
  • Have become so attached to me. (Maybe because we’re EBF so the closeness) He always looks for me and cry when we’re apart. Awww, really sweet and makes me feel really important and loved but this feeling change once he screams for me when I’m in the bathroom😒.
  • Is now a very ticklish baby, his laugh is contagious! Real music to Mommy’s ears. Goodbye Spotify!
  • Bears weight on legs when positioned for standing.
  • Seems to want to be part of everything. FOMO!
  • My favorite: Developed a sleeping pattern. From 9pm – 6am. He only wakes up every 4 hours to feed which is easy since we do a sidelying position. I have been getting enough sleep now. Yey!
  • Loves the water. He never cries when we bathe him.
  • An ideal baby traveler. He either sleeps or just watches the view whenever we’re on a car. When he starts to fuzz we just give him my breast milk.
  • Shows signs of teething. He attempts to bite during feedings. The horror😱.
  • Tummy time is a whirlwind. He flips and roll and everything in between. We can never leave him unattended now. Ever!
  • Mommy’s love to Seb has outgrown her love for herself 👩🏻❤👶🏻

He really is a blessing. Not every moment is all smiles but cliche as it was – With just a single smile, All the hardships and pain fades. – that is the truth.

Closing in our 6th month, we’re now preparing for his solid intake. And so the quest for a high chair, food props and puree recipes has began.

I am overjoyed that Seb is growing fast but also sad that he is. All Mothers know what I mean. The best advice ever? ENJOY EVERY MOMENT.

I am posting my Love & Carry Air review because I want to share the experience and to suggest an alternative especially for budget conscious mommies who want a quality yet affordable tool for baby wearing. This cost Php 4,000 + shipping fee.

How’s my baby wearing experience? Great! I find it more personal and interactive than strollers especially when we’re out. As I love talking and describing whatever we pass on to my son. I am sure that he could hear me, compare to when we’re using  stroller. Also I get to kiss him often and see his reaction every time and he likes to taste it — it soothes him — thank you drool pads!

My Action Shot

I have also joined a forum in facebook re baby wearing and am learning a lot. Baby wearing helps a lot of mothers to be closer to their child and most of all to be flexible and be able to do more.

Happy Baby wearing Mommies… I hope that somehow, I am able to help you with your SSC decision making.

Breastfeeding: How to Increase your Milk Supply?

Currently on my 15th (3 months++) week of breastfeeding and I feel like my supply is dwindling. It’s not how it used to. The morning breast engorgement is gone. So is the 8oz in an hour pumped milk. The question that I keep asking is … What happened?!

And so I researched and found out that the 3rd month of breastfeeding is usually a phase wherein the milk supply somehow subsides. Why? Because the feeding pattern has been established and mothers have become complacent that their supply is supple thus a decrease in milk booster foods intake. Also, since the feeding pattern has been established, mothers have become more open to leaving their child to do errands or go back to work. So the direct latch practice lessens, sending a wrong message in the supply = demand cycle of the breasts.

I plan to breastfeed my baby for a year the least. And so it really bothers me and had me very worried when It took me hours just to fill a 4oz bottle when before, I can do it in 30 minutes. I have nothing against formula but… they’re really expensive!

The solution? Consume these milk booster goodies:

  • Hot beverages – currently I am drinking Malunggay tea, also hot Milo. But I’ve read in a breastfeeding forum that Ovaltine works better than Milo. Not sure why though🤔
  • Soup with green leafy vegetables
  • Natalac or any other malunggay supplements twice a day
  • Lactation treats – I ordered Oatmeal raisin cookies with Sunflower seeds… Yummy!
  • Taho – I eat Php 20.00 worth everyday
  • Buko juice
  • Oatmeal rolled oats – I found this to be very effective!
  • M2 malunggay concentrated tea
  • And the simplest and most effective of them all — drink plenty of water.

Fast forward to 18th week (4 months++) my breastmilk is now back to normal. Yehey! It was nice seeing my milk collection grow again.  It gives me security that I have enough milk to feed my baby anytime, anywhere he demands. And for my husband’s… a security of not needing to buy expensive formulas.😑

*** I am just one lucky mommy to be able to breastfeed my son, and please never think that I am against formula. Its just that I am very thankful that I do not have to buy them… yet.

There are many groups and forums, especially in facebook that one can join to share their problems and thoughts. You’ll be surprise how many women are on the same boat as you and they are more than eager to share and discuss solutions with you.

Continue giving what’s best for your child, either breastmilk or formula as long as he is never hungry, then that is more than enough and you are a good mother no matter what!

Anyway, this post is to share my recent bump in the road on my breastfeeding journey. All breastfeeding moms go thru this phase and its just a matter of going back to the basics. To feed on good stuff and have a positive outlook that your milk supply is enough for your child.

Enjoying my baby Seb,

Babywearing: Which SSC is better?

Babywearing is something that I have yet to experience. I’ve seen many parents doing this almost everywhere and I say it looks pretty easy and very convenient instead of a stroller – No more elevators, bulky carriage and you can go anywhere as if you are simply carrying a bag… talk about portability. The concept is simple: You-carry-your-baby.👍🏼

I am a research person and that’s why I love reading blogs – especially Mom blogs nowadays ever since I’ve been one. Their recommendations are what sells a product to me because their reviews are as real as one can get. And so the search for the perfect carrier begins…

Baby Carriers are very indemand now and so comes the vast selection. From types, to brands, to colors, sizes and features and It can get pretty overwhelming. With this, you have to identify your needs to be able to narrow down your choices. And here is what I am looking for:

  • Can be use from Newborn to Toddler without the need for infant insert.
  • Can do front facing position.
  • Comfortable for Mommy’s use.
  • For the price: I understand that SSCs are pricey (almost the same price of a stroller) but as long as its brand is established and trusted, the quality is very good then I’ll just turn a blind eye😂
  • Hope Daddy can use too.

Okay so that was quite a list but I have narrowed my choices to three and will discuss them in a while. But first let me talk about what I’ve learned about babywearing so far..

Babywearing is not a new trend as it can be traced way back to our ancestors (tribe people – they use clothe as wraps then). From there it has evolved and is now known in its many faces: Mei Tai, Ring Sling, Woven Wrap, Stretch Wrap and the most popular and modern SSC (Soft Structured Carriers), which is my choice.

I have tried the SaYa (Pricing at Php 950.00) which is a stretch wrap and I was confused and kind of disappointed. It is hard to set up that I never get to use it. I ordered it when Seb is only 3 weeks, tried it with my husband’s help. Even with the manual and watching YouTube videos – we still fail. I find it too snug and fit that I am scared to put my baby in it in fear that he’ll get squish. I have the right size naman but I don’t know I am just not confident to use it.

And so I look for other wraps and find the Baby K’Tan breeze which look very promising. It is half mesh, half cloth so the airflow is present which is really important especially in Philippine weather. It does not seem that complicated to use and has more support. For the price of around Php 3,000 it was a candidate. Was I say because I thought that wraps would not be for my long term use as it has a tendency to sag if Seb becomes heavier which is inevitable. So from wraps I’ve jumped to an SSC.

SSC is sturdier and will grow with my baby. And from my research my top choices are:

ERGOBABY 360 – (still needs an infant insert) can be used from 7-33 lbs, has a front facing feature, ErgoBaby is the top brand when it comes to baby carriers so the quality is expected to be superb. Has very good designs but we’re interested to get the block gray if ever.

ergobaby-360

TULA – still needs an infant insert and no front facing position but from reviews mothers say that these are the most comfortable to use as it fits the wearer very well. Also the designs are very stylish, I am so inlove with the block gray and star design.

img_6452_b78a28f3-b769-4ea7-a9c2-c8afa4c4be4d_1024x1024

LILLEBABY All Seasons – no need for infant insert, has 6 positions including front facing and can be use from newborn to toddlers years so that’s 7-45 lbs. Has a lumbar support too which is brilliant.

lillebaby-complete-all-seasons-6-in-1-baby-carrier-2

lillebaby_essentials-allseasons-stone-01_1024x1024

These SSCs cost pretty much the same, pricing at around Php 5,000 ++ costly I know but I’d rather spend than risk my baby falling (nooooooo!) All are available in the country. The Ergobaby and Lillebaby can be purchase in The Baby Company at selected SM stores but TULA has an exclusive distributor which is the CEO Emporium whose store is located in San Juan.

I am pretty much solved to LILLEBABY because its very “sulit”. Still need to try them personally prior to buying which will happen in the next few weeks. Seb is exactly  2 months now and I plan to start wearing him at around 3 months to make sure that his head and neck are stronger.

I joined the Babywearing Philippines page in Facebook and it really is a big help in giving information about everything I need to know in babywearing, check out and join the group moms. Its really helpful.

Will update you guys once my babywearing journey started.

Excited to buy her very first carrier,

My Newborn Learnings

Our little Sebastian turns one month old recently and I am still quite crazed that its only been a month when I feel I’d aged a number of years just by taking care of him. My daily routine of sleepless nights may have played a big factor with my aging theory😊

Anyway, here are my thoughts and what I learned for the past month since we had our little man… (in random order).

  • Mommy’s evident breastmilk usually comes a week postpartum but make sure to latch your baby asap for him to suck on the colostrum which is very healthy and beneficial to him as it gives him antibodies to strengthen his immune system. Do not rely on a breast pump to gauge your milk supply as newborns suck way better than that of breast pumps.
  • During the first 2 weeks – breastfeeding hurts. Your nipple will be sore, bleed and have blisters huhuhu. Literally toe curling pain.
  • Sleep, feed, burp and diaper change is what our entire day is about.
  • Hiccups in newborns are normal.
  • They are noisy sleepers! They grunt, wheezes and make all those noises while asleep. It has something to do with their breathing as they are not yet adapted to the outside world.
  • The little white lumps in your baby’s face and body commonly referred to as “milia” will soon fade. No need to put on anything to cure it. Anyway, these lumps came from you during pregnancy. The culprit as always: Your hormones.
  • They do turn beet red either when they cry or strain due to bowel movement because their skin is still thin and adjusting. (Their skintone and eye color is still a mystery too).
  • The umbilical stump falls off sometime during the 3rd week. Just clean it with cotton and alcohol and try to remove the little grayish parts. Don’t worry as your baby doesn’t feel the alcohol’s sting or any pain.
  • If you have a fat baby like mine, make sure to clean his in betweens with cotton and baby oil especially the ones in the neck, nape and underarms as they can smell pretty unbaby-ish / bad.
  • His first month milestone achieved: lifting his head during tummy time.
  • The elders are against it but we should practice tummy time a few minutes a day and increase gradually to strengthen his muscles and prepare him for crawling, standing and other physical activities.
  • For effective releasing of gas, push your baby’s knees towards his stomach for 10 seconds.
  • At 5 weeks, they shed their first tears (teeny tiny tears).
  • At 5 weeks, he’ll notice/stare at his toys especially the one hanging on his crib.
  • The baby’s sleep schedule is still out of whack so a few hours sleep is still what Mom has.
  • By week 6, ready your cash as baby’s vaccine is on schedule. Per our Pedia, it will cost more or less Php 10,000 for these shots.
  • Sometime right after celebrating his first month, he’ll look like a little person with too much cuteness and his clothes will feel snug one by one, also his diapers will change size from newborn to small.

The day is pretty much routine. The nights may be longer but be careful of wishing for it to be over as they do grow fast. Once they’re this tiny being then the next day their clothes won’t fit in!

Whenever I look at my baby I wish that he’ll stay that little forever so I can always carry him next to my heart.
